PTO Welcome Letter to Parents

September 16, 2013

Dear Brown Families,

A warm welcome to our new families and welcome back to our returning ones!  The PTO Team for 2013-2014 is gearing up for some fun events which we hope you all will join in on.

First, there are new faces to the Brown PTO Team this year and we wanted to introduce ourselves.

New PTO Co-Presidents This Fall:
Molly Owen-Kiritsy and Theresa Fitzpatrick

Molly Owen-Kiritsy has both 7th and 8th graders at Brown, a sophomore at Newton South and a 2nd grader at Angier. She’s most interested in working on strengthening communication between school and home- seeing as our middle schoolers don’t keep us too well informed!

Theresa Fitzpatrick has an 8th grader at Brown as well as two future Brown students continuing their studies at Angier; a 3rd and 5th grader. Theresa is looking forward to working with Molly and the Executive PTO Team, along side John Jordan and his team of teachers and staff.

We are also very fortunate to have the talents and expertise of:
Christine Whitman ~ new Treasurer
Anabel Cable~  Brown Directory Coordinator (Directory available for order and pick up on Back to School Night Sept 25 click here to order on line.)
Robin Healey  ~ Brown Webmaster – updating the Brown site to be consistent with many other  Newton PTO websites across the system.

The Brown PTO had already been hard at work even before school started and right as our students came back to school.  A huge thank you goes out to:
Beth Barry, Ava Harder and their children for their help with the Brown Bulk School Supplies program that was launched this past Spring. Over 200 Brown families ordered their supplies through the PTO, which saved everyone from standing in long lines at Staples!  We’re already making improvements to improve the process for next year.
Kristen Podufaly and Anne Raisner,  for ensuring that all our students smiled for the camera on picture day.

Stay tuned for more updates in upcoming newsletters- including the formation of a new Executive PTO team.

If you have questions, concerns or ideas for the Brown PTO or would like to get involved, please contact us. We welcome any and all feedback!

Warmest regards,
Molly Owen Kiritsy & Theresa Fitzpatrick

Support Brown through your PTO!

Each year, the Brown PTO works with our principal, John Jordan, to identify areas in need of improvement throughout our school. Over the past years the PTO has helped:

  • Upgrade our computer lab
  • Add reading spaces and books to our library
  • Renovate community spaces
  • Fund the Creative Arts and Science programs
  • Sponsor the PAC Run
  • Organize the annual Faculty Foul-Ups event
  • Provide subsidies for field trips and school fees

All these improvements and activities enrich our school and create a fuller learning experience for our students.   This is the main fundraising campaign at Brown Middle School.  With a donation of $50 you can help fund all these enrichments for our students and faculty.  – click here to order on line.
We understand the economy makes it difficult for some to contribute, so we kindly ask you to give as much as you are able.
Every family that contributes to the PTO, regardless of dollar amount, will receive a school directory at the Back-to-School Night on September 25th, which starts at 6:30pm.  Checks and cash donations will be accepted at Back-to-School Night on September 25th, or you can order in advance online by clicking here.
