Student’s Daily Schedule

To ensure a balance between academic requirements and opportunities, Brown operates on a six-day schedule. Unfortunately, there are five days in a school week, and this system can look confusing. However, most students quickly learn how it works. The Days of the Cycle calendar shows both the actual calendar date and the numbered day of the cycle. For example, September 14 is a Day 5. Your student’s schedule for every Day is the same.

Students at Brown are enrolled in six classes: Math, Science, Social Studies, English, FAA (Fine & Applied Arts), and World Language. Each class will be assigned to a “Block” in your student’s schedule.

Each school day consists of 6 class periods. Period 4, called Extension Time, is broken into 3 segments and includes the lunch break. Each day, students have lunch by grade during one of the Extension time segments. The two remaining extension segments are spent in their Community classroom, meeting with other teachers, or elective classes (chorus, band, Latin, or Chinese). Please note that on Tuesdays the school day ends at 2:15 instead of 3:00 and therefore the periods are shorter.

The remaining 5 periods of the students’ academic day are filled with 5 of their 6 classes. Each day they will not have one class. The A-G Block Schedule shows the structure of each day of the cycle.

Still confused? Ask to look at your child’s schedule. In most cases they will quickly explain it to you. If they are confused, feel free to contact your child’s Community teacher.
