First Friday Letter – 4/1/16

Dear Parents and Guardians,

April is Autism Awareness Month, and I want to acknowledge our ABA program here at Brown servicing students with autism spectrum disorders. Our program here at Brown began twelve years ago. The Brown ABA program has an extraordinarily talented staff that includes: Inclusion Facilitators, Emily Nordone and Monica Massucco; with support from ten behavior therapists. The students in the Brown ABA program have continued to exhibit some great skills throughout this school year; including participating in an adaptive physical education class, completing jobs within the school community, producing some beautiful and creative artwork, and working with peers in the Brown Peer Buddies program on a variety of activities.

Dear Parents and Guardians,

The second term ends on Friday, March 18. Later in the month, we will send you an important email message detailing how to access your child’s report card electronically through the secure Parent Portal in Skyward. I would also like to welcome all of the incoming sixth grade families from our four elementary feeder schools. We will email you with electronic copies of information from Brown Middle School.

Skyward Family Access Portal: Earlier this week, you should have received information regarding the implementation of our new student information management system called Skyward. Family Access will replace our former portal, ParentCONNECT. Family/Student Access is a secure Internet-based website that will allow you to view your child’s school attendance, term grades, and update family emergency contact information. In order for you to begin using Family/Student Access, you will need a login and password. You should have received that information electronically on Wednesday, March 2. If you do not receive the email message, please contact our main office here at Brown. There is a Family Access video and a Student Access video with navigation instructions found here on the NPS Families Resource page: Continue reading

Dear Families,

Community is an important value here at Brown Middle School. It takes all of us to build an environment in which our differences are not simply tolerated–they are valued. We, at Brown, value our differences in race, religion, cultural heritage, gender, sexual orientation, learning styles, ethnicity, language, physical differences, and physical appearance.

While we strive to create an inclusive community for all, we realize that in reality, there is still important work to be done. According to results from the November 2014 Newton Youth Risk Behavior Survey: Continue reading
