2017 Book Fair
Students and parents/guardians will be able to visit the Book Fair during school hours and a concert on Tuesday night. Sign up to volunteer at the fair! It’s a great chance to observe kids during class visits and interact with other parents. Proceeds from all sales directly support the Brown PTO.
Summer Reading 2017
Required summer reading books for Brown Middle School, by incoming grade:
- 6th Grade Because of Mr. Terupt by Rob Buyea
- 7th Grade Flying lessons & Other stories by Ellen Oh
- 8th Grade The running dream by Wendelin Van Draanen
Looking for additional suggestions? Check out the 2017 Middle School Summer Reading List compiled by the Newton Free Library and the Middle School Librarians.
- 9th Grade – Newton South One School, One Question Incoming 9th graders will be able to pre-order two of the five Newton South 2017 One School, One Question books at the Brown Book Fair. Each year, a committee of Newton South students, teachers, and parents chooses several books that address one question. This year’s question is How Can I Make a Difference? Students then select at least one of the books to read over the summer. In the fall, they take half of a school day to discuss the ideas in the books as a school, with guest speakers, discussion groups, and panels. Incoming Newton South Freshmen will have a chance to pre-order I am Malala by Malala Yousafzai and The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas to read one or both during the summer. Books will be delivered to school on June 7th.
