Music at Brown

Brown is very fortunate to have a rich and vibrant  tradition of music, led by our dynamic duo of Music teachers: Matthew Bailey-Adams (General Music Gr. 6 & 7, Chorus, and the Brown Musical) and Devon Nelson (General Music Gr. 8, Band, Orchestra, and Brown Musical Pit Orchestra Director).

Sign-ups for Band, Orchestra or Chorus take place in the Fall. Rehearsals take place in extension time during the school day, and there are many opportunities to perform throughout the year at school concerts and district festivals. For information about A Cappella or the Mostly Brass ensemble, please email Mr. Bailey-Adams.

Concert Attire

Our concert uniform is as follows

  • A white, formal shirt or blouse (long-sleeved for button down shirts) with a conservative neckline.
  • For collared shirts, students are required to wear a royal blue bow tie, which they can acquire for themselves or purchase from Mr. Bailey-Adams for $5. Students without a collar should wear a royal blue accent (hair-tie, headband, scarf, necklace, etc.)
  • Black formal bottoms (pants, long skirt) with a black belt where appropriate. If a student wishes to wear a full dress, it must be black and white.
  • Black dress shoes with black socks or equivalent where appropriate.

Mostly Brass ensemble members should wear black tops instead of white on the night of their concert.

Volunteers Needed!

Our music teachers rely on parent help with concert logistics and to provide a well-earned celebration after the performance. Volunteers are needed to act as pre-concert chaperones (helping students get ready and keep quiet). Parents are also asked to provide supplies for the post-concert celebration. Support Music at Brown!

We need your help!
Building the Brown Music community and providing the most opportunities for students to succeed musically here at Brown is made possible by the continued support of parents and guardians, as volunteers and through donations. The NPS music fees do not cover all the costs of instruments, sheet music, equipment, printing, field trips, etc. Our teachers rely on funds raised by the PTO Music Committee to supplement these expenses.
