8th Grade Activities

As we approach the end of the school year, we want to fill you in on the 8th Grade Activities we have planned for our students! A volunteer committee of 8th grade parents has been working with Principal Lysaght to send our kids off in a fun and meaningful way. Please read on to learn more about the details, complete the t-shirt form, and submit your payment for the activities (scholarships available as needed).

Celebration Highlights (further details below)

  • 8th Grade Dance at Brown: Friday, May 15th, 6-8PM (tickets for this event are $10 each, sold separately through the 8th grade students)
  • Step Up Day Treats at Brown: Friday, June 12th, in the afternoon, when students return from Step Up Day at Newton South
  • Boston Harbor Cruise Tuesday, June 16th, during the school day with classmates, teachers, administrators, and support staff; event includes bus to/from Boston, boat ticket, lunch and entertainment
  • Moving-On Rehearsal at Newton South Stadium: Tuesday, June 23rd, during the school day
  • Moving-On Ceremony at Newton South Stadium: Thursday, June 25th, 10-11:15am
  • Brown Bear T-Shirts for graduates
  • Class Gift from the Class of 2026 new plants for the entryway
  • 8th Grade Yearbook

To fund these activities and gifts, we are asking for a contribution of $150 per child ($156 if paying electronically)*

Please consider making an extra donation to our 8th grade committee so that all students, regardless of financial need, can participate. Any amount you contribute above $150 ($156 electronically) will go toward helping other 8th Graders.

*Scholarships/financial assistance available: No student will be turned away for financial reasons. Please contact Principal Lysaght lysaghtk@newton.k12.ma.us  or Courtney Ross rossco@newton.k12.ma.us to request assistance.

Your action items – please complete the following tasks as soon as possible:

  1. Due April 30th: Select the T-shirt size for your 8th Grader HERE TO ORDER T-SHIRT.  T-shirts are adult unisex sizing. If you do not complete the form by April 30th, your child will receive size Adult L.
  2. Due May 15th: Pay the activities fee. Any amount you enter over $150/$156 will go toward helping other 8th graders. Here are the payment options:

    2. Cash or check payments ($150) can be turned in at the school main office. Please include a note with “8th Grade Activities” and your child’s name. Please make checks payable to “Brown PTO”.

  3. Due May 16th: Complete the permission slip for the Boston Harbor Cruise and return to the school office or team teachers. If your child needs an allergen-friendly meal, please email sara.kunin@gmail.com.
