NPS Budget Cuts

NPS is facing a budget gap of $2.7 million for the 2026-2027 school year to keep services level to this year. To close the gap, the Superintendent proposes cutting 11.5 FTE (full time equivalent) positions from the Central Office. The School Committee is taking its final vote on the budget on Monday, April 6th. If you are concerned about how these budget cuts will affect your student(s), please consider:

  • Attending the next School Committee meeting, tomorrow, Monday 3/30/26, 6:30pm in the Frazier Room (#210) in the Education Center at 100 Walnut Street (your in-person presence is more powerful, but there is also a Zoom option)
  • Spreading the news to Newton residents who are not involved in NPS.
